5 Step Guide to Giving up your Mobile!

We have all become phone addicts. Can you live without yours?

Mobile

Did you know checking text messages distracts the brain, leading to a temporary drop in IQ and reduced concentration span?

How many times a day are you interrupted by a phone call or text? I’m sure it’s quiet a lot. When that happens your wasting huge amounts of time. The distraction will take you ages to get back into what you were previously doing before.

So many people crave this constant communication. They feel cut of a isolated without it. Can you go a whole day with your mobile turned off and left at home?

A “Mobile Fast” can really help give more space and free time. It will also make your mind less cluttered. You will be free to think and use your imaginations more.

The Five-Step Mobile Fast

1) Set up a voicemail/answering message letting people know the phone is not in use. Leave your home number on the message so if they need to contact you in an emergency they can.

2) Decided how long you are going to “fast” and stick with it.

3) Leave your phone somewhere you can’t easily get to it. Make sure it’s switched off.

4) Understand it’s natural to be anxious at first, because you’re breaking a strong habit. After a while you will adjust.

5) Enjoy having more free time and greater productivity. Allow your mind space to think and enjoy the freedom not having a mobile brings.

I’d love to know how you get on. Are you going to try it? Perhaps you think it’s a bad idea? Then let me know. If you go on a “mobile fast” and would like to write a short diary/story of how you got on then email it to Tom@TomLeDree.com

I once went 3 years without a mobile. My friends would curse me on a regular basis, but I was happy without one. One day, they bought me a mobile for my birthday. Though I screamed when I saw it, I had to use it and couldn’t through it away, since it was a birhtday present.
I NOW HAVE 2 PHONES!!
Thankfully, may hatred for them means that I don’t waste too much of my life attatched to it.

I just read an article that a lot of people that use cell phone too much can’t remember relatives’ birthdays or even their home phone number.

Hi Tom,

I know I can live without mine, that’s not a problem lol, but my teenage daughter……well, I think she would be certain that she had turned stone deaf and boy, can she text hahahaha. I think for many it has become not just an accessory but also a way of life, constantly in contact with someone. Makes you wonder how the business world survived before the advent of mobiles doesn’t it?

That sure is interesting. It’s a good point; many people rely heavily on technology. With out it they struggle to cope with simple things.

I do own a mobile but hardly ever use it. It sits indoors most the time and if people ask for my number I give them my landline one. Like Rednose my friends think I’m crazy… I think I would have to agree with them!

I once accidentally left my phone at home. It was like I’m craving for caffeine or something LOL (mind u, I don’t smoke…) Kept on thinking who’d text me, who’d called every 5 minutes. Can’t concentrate my work…geez!

Colin: It’s scary to think that a lot of people don’t remember the time before mobiles! It makes me feel old haha.

What phones do you guys have?

I am sure it would be tough to do. But I think it would be better to go without the phone as a conscious decision as opposed to just loosing it…it sure has affected my memory, I still can not remember Lizzie, my wifes number to save my life. I am sure it really annoys her as well.

But it does seem like we are in the age where we don’t need to remember phone numbers…it is sign of the times.
