The Beautiful Mistake

It’s a fact of life that we all make mistakes. Everyone does it, but why does that have to be a bad thing? We seem to have been lead to believe that making mistakes in a negative. It doesn’t have to be that way though. We are all only human after all!

I came across this mistake quote and it inspired me to think differently.

“A life spent making mistakes is not only more honourable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.” George Bernard Shaw (1856 - 1950)

I believe this to be very true. It takes a honourable person to admit they got it wrong. Everyone always seems to have an excuse. How often do you say “It wasn’t me” or “yeh… but…”

Mistakes can be one of the greatest things you can do. Just try not to make them on purpose. Instead learn from them. Take a step back and notice what went wrong and why. Try to see them in a new light by thinking “This mistake can be useful to me because I can learn from it. I can see where I went wrong and try not to make the same mistake again.”

You will sometimes make the same mistake twice (perhaps even more) but that’s fine. As long as each time you get something positive out of it. Use it to grow, to learn and develop as a better person.

If you don’t go for things and try to succeed then you have already failed. Don’t let the fear of making a mistake and being ‘wrong’ hold you back. Just really go for things in life. You will make mistakes. You will feel silly on occasion. But please just go for what ever it is you want in life.

I have a challenge for you. Next time you make a mistake admit to it. Own up and say, “yep I admit it I made a mistake and I’m sorry” Then realise why you made the mistake… and move on.

I fully agree with everything you say in this post: Society tends to tell us that mistakes are not only bad, but are also humiliating and ’stupid’ to make.

You’r post just goes to highlight that mistakes can, and should, be viewed in a positive light. In my opinion it is far better to make a mistake and learn from it, than to be right and not know why.

The biggest problem with mistakes in todays society is the ‘blame culture’ that we have. Due to the fact that mistakes are viewed as a bad thing, people are highly hesitant to admit they make them, instead blaming other factors or people.

I think Greg Lunger is right, acknowleging mistakes and learning from them can truely make the world a better place.

Keep up the great posts Tom!

Hey Tom,

Have you ever read any of the Abraham books? They’re all about the law of attraction. You seem to do this naturally, and so young at that. Good energy!
